Sioux Falls, SD - The University of Sioux Falls men’s basketball team will enter the 2009-10 season ranked 23rd in the NAIA, according to a release by the national office Monday afternoon. The Cougars return three starters from last year’s team who advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the national tournament and won the conference tournament.

Head Coach Chris Johnson led his team to a 20-16 record in 2008-09. His squad shocked the nation by winning four straight road games to win the GPAC tournament and earn a bid to the national tournament. Then they upset #2 Cedarville to advance out of the first round. The Cougars eventually fell to the NAIA runner-up.

Other GPAC schools ranked in the preseason top 25 include: Dakota Wesleyan (4) and Briar Cliff (13).

The Cougars will begin their 2009-10 campaign on October 31, when they travel to take on Mayville State University. Sioux Falls will begin their home schedule on November 6 against Dakota State University, in the Famous Dave’s Classic.
