Sioux Falls, SD - In a match where both the University of Sioux Falls and Northwestern College (3-12-1 overall, 3-7-1 GPAC) were fighting to improve their Great Plains Athletic Conference playoff chances, it was the Cougars that came out with a 1-0 win.

The difference in the match was an unassisted goal by forward Ashley Dement (Harrisburg, S.D.) in the 33rd minute. The senior is second on the team with six goals.

The defense limited the Red Raiders to only six shots on the night, with sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Van Peursem (Sioux Falls, S.D.) recording four saves. USF has a shut out in seven of its nine wins this season. The Cougars also had a shutout in a 0-0 tie over Briar Cliff earlier this season.

The victory assured USF (9-7-1 overall, 6-4-1 GPAC) a spot in the playoff as they move up to a tie for fifth place in the conference. Eight teams make it in and the loss by Northwestern knocked the Red Raiders out and all but solidified the playoff spots.

USF will play their last regular season match this Saturday, October 31 at 5:30 pm on their home field at the USF Sanford Complex against GPAC No. 8 Concordia University (7-8-2 overall, 5-6 GPAC).
