Sioux Falls, SD - Sioux Falls, S.D. (November 13, 2009) – The USF women’s basketball team held NAIA Division I MidAmerican Nazarene to a season low point total as the Cougars won their second straight, 61-50. Sioux Falls handed the Pioneers their first loss of the season in what was truly a team effort.

The Pioneers held their only lead of the game with their first possession. The Cougars tied the game and took control just over 2:30 into the ball game. MidAmerican hung around in the first half until the 5:00 mark. It was then when the Cougars began their 11-0 run to end the half. MidAmerican shot just 29% from the floor before intermission. The Cougars converted 15 first half turnovers into 15 points. USF shot 39% from the floor in the half.

MidAmerican fought back into the game in the opening minutes of the half. Trailing by 10 points less than six minutes into the half, the Pioneers scored eight unanswered points to pull within two. The game remained tight until USF increased the pressure on MNU. The Pioneers committed five turnovers and scored just two points in the final 5:50, as the Cougars pulled away to their 61-50 win.

For the Cougars, nine players received at least 15 minutes of floor time. Led by Chelsa Baxa’s 14 points, the Cougars were 41% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc. Betsy Hildreth and Jamey Hofer poured in 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Sioux Falls defense created 26 turnovers and limited the Pioneers to shooting just 31% from the floor.

The Cougars will be back in action Saturday, November 14 in day two of Northwestern’s Pizza Ranch Classic. USF will tip off against Waldorf College at noon.
