Sioux Falls, SD - The University of Sioux Falls women’s basketball team dropped a game against Waldorf College (2-4) 75-74 this morning at the Pizza Ranch Classic hosted by Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.

Junior guard Chelsa Baxa (Herrick, S.D.) had a season-high 23 points and freshman Holli Aggen (Worthington, Minn.) totaled 14 points, including hitting three of her five three point attempts.

USF and Waldorf battled it out the first 20 minutes, with neither team pulling ahead, until senior guard Malissa Gruenwald (Clark, S.D.) hit a three with 4:12 left in the half. The three pointer gave USF a 31-27 lead and the largest lead of the game for either team but USF went cold, missing six straight shots to end the half. Waldorf held a 38-32 lead at the break.

USF was able to maintain contact throughout the second half but ran into foul trouble as they had two players foul out and two more players had four personal fouls. Down 74-71 with 53 seconds left, Baxa hit a clutch three to tie the score at 74. A USF foul with one second left on the clock put Waldorf’s Samantha Boje on the free throw line. Sinking her first shot was all that was needed as the Warriors took the 75-74 victory.

USF will play cross-town rival Augustana College (S.D.) this Wednesday, November 18 at 6 p.m. Augustana has played one game this year, defeating Hamline University 79-62 in an exhibition.
