Rachel Heeney and Danielle Roers Earn GPAC Honors


Juniors Danielle Roers and Rachel Heeney earned GPAC recongition.

Sioux Falls, SD - University of Sioux Falls junior Rachel Heeney (South Sioux City, Neb.) has been selected to the Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball second team, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.


This season Heeney worked her way up several national charts with standout play from her Libero position. She finished third in the GPAC and 14th nationally in digs per set (5.8) and seventh nationally in total digs (799). In a September 19th match against Ashford College Heeney set a school record for digs in a match with 46, helping earn one of her two GPAC Libero of the Week awards. Additionally, Heeney had a 90% serve reception rate for the season.


Earning her second consecutive honorable mention GPAC recognition is junior outside hitter Danielle Roers (Lakeville, Minn.). This season Roers led the Cougars with 364 kills, 2.66 kills per game, and was third in digs with 295.


This season the Cougars improved their total wins, hosted and won their first GPAC playoff game since 2003 and will return all members from this years team for the 2010-2011 season.
