USF’s Five Game Win Streak Ended in 84-64 Loss to Augustana

11/19/2009 12:03 am

Sioux Falls, SD - The University of Sioux Falls men’s basketball five game win streak ended with an 84-64 loss to cross-town rival and NCAA Division II Augustana College (2-0).

The men improved their shooting from the field in the second half (28% to 42%), but it wasn’t enough as Augustana shot 55% from the floor in the second half to take the 20 point victory.

After a three point play by junior guard Matt Malloy (Parkston, S.D.) and a layup by senior guard Thomas Frames (Los Angeles, Calif.), the Cougars jumped to a 5-3 early lead, but the Vikings had seven unanswered points of their own. The Cougars would pull within three points (12-9), but the 14-2 Viking run over four minutes put USF at a 29-14 disadvantage. The Vikings would hit several three pointers to end the half at 40-24.

Sophomore guard Jack Ridgway (Brandon, S.D.) opened the half with an assist to Malloy beyond the arch, then Ridgway pulled up on a successful jumper and added another three points on the next possession. The eight point surge energized USF fans and closed the deficit to 10 points (42-32), the closest the Cougars would be the remainder of the night. Ridgway had 12 points, three assists and a rebound on the night.

Augustana only missed a handful of shots the rest of the way as they opened the gap on the Cougars, earning the second win of their season (2-0).

USF will play at Hastings College on Saturday, November 21st at 4:00 p.m.
