Sioux Falls, SD - University of Sioux Falls head baseball coach Matt Guiliano is pleased to announce the commitment of Kevin Santos. The 5’11, 175 lbs. centerfielder will have two seasons of eligibility remaining, spending his first two seasons at San Diego City College in California.

"Kevin is a great signing for us as we are losing a very solid centerfielder in Todd Neu” Guiliano said. “Kevin should be able to come in with experience and take over centerfield for us.”

As a sophomore this spring, Santos started 30 games and played in another four for the 27-9 SDCC Knights. The Knights led the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) with a 19-6 league record.

In 112 at-bats this season, Santos recorded a .313 batting average with 35 hits, nine doubles, two triples and 25 runs scored. Additionally, Santos knocked-in 17 runs, held a .414 on-base percentage and was six of nine on stolen base attempts. For his efforts, he was recognized with an honorable mention selection on the All-PCAC team. Santos played his prep ball at University City High School in San Diego.

“As a fielder, Kevin makes a great jump with a smart read when the ball leaves the bat” Guiliano said. “He also adds a very good bat to our lineup and can handle different situations well. He should fit our style of play very well."

Santos is the seventh member of the 2010-2011 USF recruiting class and second Californian, joining second baseman Ryan Fobes of Chula Vista.

After a breakout 2010 season that saw the Cougars win a school-record 33 games, USF will have five returning starters in the field and a good core of its pitching rotation back next season.
