Sioux Falls, SD - The College Fanz Sports Network, one of the top resources for NAIA athletic coverage, has tabbed the University of Sioux Falls the No. 1 team in its annual preseason rankings. The rankings were compiled by the College Fanz NAIA Football Game of the Week broadcast team. USF is also ranked No. 1 in the official NAIA Preseason Polls released in April.

Last season USF won the NAIA National Title to claim back-to-back championships. The Cougars have appeared in the last four national championship games, winning three, and will carry the nation’s longest winning streak into the 2010 season with 29 straight victories.

This season USF will face the tough challenge of replacing six offensive starters, including 2009 NAIA Player of the Year quarterback Lorenzo Brown, and seven defensive starters. The Cougars top three receiving threats return and will join two all-conference lineman as the base for the offense. On the defensive side of the ball, National Championship Player of the Game Dominic Studzinski will be counted on as one of four returning starters from a defense that ranked near the top in all major categories in 2009.

First year head coach Jed Stugart has brought in a very talented recruiting class that has 34 players from across the country. Stugart and staff appear to have reloaded the vacancies created by graduation primarily with JUCO and NCAA Division I transfers, including Colorado State University quarterback transfer Jon Eastman.

Three of USF’s 2010 regular season opponents appear in the rankings, No. 5 Morningside College, No. 13 Hastings College, and No. 20 Northwestern College (Iowa).

USF will start the 2010 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Dana College at the USF Sanford Sports Complex.
