The Series
Minot State is up 2-0 in the series. Friday's meeting will be the first between USF and MSU since 2001, when the Beavers picked up a 91-81 win at home.
Strong Guard Play
Junior guard Holli Aggen came up big for the Cougars last weekend, finishing with 24 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in USF's wins over SDSM&T and BHSU. Aggen is tied with Vanessa Johnson for the team's leader in assists with 45 on the year.
Dominating the Paint
The Cougars have outscored their last two opponents 56-24 in the paint and much their domination can be attributed to outstanding play in the frontcourt by Jamey Hofer and Elizabeth Hildreth. The two forwards combined for 31 points, 15 rebounds and three assists against the Hardrockers Friday.
Shoot for 45
The Cougars shooting percentage has been up and down this year, as they have surpassed the 45% mark just five times this season, but when they do it is usually a win. USF is 5-0 on the year when shooting 45% or higher for the game.
Stingy D
Through 15 games, the Cougars' stingy defense has yet to allow an opponent to shoot above 43.6% from the field. USF's defense is holding opponents to 35.1% shooting from the field this season with just two opponents reaching the 40% mark.
Scoring Frenzy
The Cougars have not been beating their opponents; they have continued to blowout their competition. USF has won by 28 points or more in each of their last three games.
Prey at Night
USF has experienced success in games played after 5p.m, where they are boast a 6-0 record this season. The Cougars and Beavers are set to tip-off at 5:30p.m.
Fierce Front Court
MSU forwards, Carly & Christina Boag can be a very difficult defensive assignment for any front court. The sister duo currently accounts for more than a third of the teams scoring. Carly leads the Beavers in both scoring (15.6ppg) and rebounding (8.2rpg), while Christina sits at No. 2 with 10.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. The Australian natives are also the team's most efficient shooters, shooting 53% and 52% from the field.
Last Four Out
The Beavers have topped three of their last four opponents, including consecutive wins over SDSM&T (70-67) and BHSU (83-47). USF's most recent victories also came against SDSM&T and BHSU.
Signature Wins
Both USF and MSU have picked up signature wins over top ranked Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition and future conference foe teams, Augstana College and the University of Mary. MSU defeated U-Mary in Bismarck, N.D. (11/15), while the Cougars claimed a win over Augustana in a neutral meeting at Sioux Falls Arena (11/15). Augstana is currently ranked No. 2 in the NSIC and U-Mary sits at No.3.
Double-Double
USF saw its first double-double of the year, when senior forward Jamey Hofer put up 14 points and 10 rebounds on SDSM&T.
Historical Weekend
With the conclusion Sunday's game, Elizabeth Hildreth joined the 1,000 point club, while Jamey Hofer claimed the No. 10 spot on the Cougars' all-time scoring list.
Up Next
USF will look to avenge one of their two losses this season, when they face University of Nebraska-Omaha on the road.
