USF Women's Golf Finishes 9th at Spring Invite
The University of Sioux Falls women's golf team improved on Friday's score, carding a 360 Saturday in the final round of Upper Iowa's Spring Invitational giving the Cougars a 724 for the weekend. Despite a lowered team score, USF was unable to move up in the team standings and finished ninth overall in a tough all NSIC field.
Friday's leaders in the team and individual standings maintained their positions today. Maggie Leland shaved three strokes off her first round score to fire a one-over 73 and take home the title with a 149 on the weekend. Her performance helped No.21 Augustana (642) to the team victory. Minnesota State finished five strokes back of the Vikings with a 647 to take second, while Winona State's 669 was good for third place.
USF had two scorers finish in the top 25 in Kali Gottsleben and Tavia Rutherford. Gottsleben matched her first round score with an 84 giving her a 168 and a tie for 17th. Rutherford also replicated her opening round, shooting an 86 today to card a 172 for the invite and tie for 23rd.
The Cougars will not have to travel far April 14 when they play in the Augustana Invitational at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D.
