Track Competes at Concordia Twilight

The University of Sioux Falls men's and women's track and field teams ended the 2012 season late Friday night at the Concordia Twilight Meet in Seward, Neb.

The Cougars came away with two individual titles and a host of top-five finishes versus a field that consisted of NAIA, NCAA D-II and NCAA D-I opponents.

Junior Danielle Moyer took top honors in the women's 100 meter dash. She recorded a time of 12.39 to win the event.

Kristen Townley stood atop the medal stand after winning the triple jump with a leap of 11.47 meters. Kara Maas notched a sixth place finish (10.62).

Moyer missed her second individual title by .12 meters when she recorded a mark of 5.45 to finish second overall in the women's long jump. Nebraska Wesleyan's Jillian Guerrero edged Moyer with a leap of 5.57. Townley went 4.98 to finish in ninth.

Sophomore Blake Stevenson was the Cougars top finisher in the men's 800 meter run. He clocked a time of 1:54.45 to finish third overall.

The Cougars also tallied three top-5 finishes in the pole vault. Kristin Killough soared 4.0 meters to finish runner-up to USF's Kayla Coffee, who competed unattached and won with a clearance of 4.15 meters. Chelsey Pflipsen took fourth (3.71).
In the men's vault, freshman Brandon Rogers took third with a mark of 4.57.

Becca Steadman was the Cougars' entry in the women's steeplechase and the freshman did well, completing the 3,000 meter event in 12:09.70 to finish sixth overall.

Lucas Delacruz posted a pair of seventh place finishes in the men's long jump (6.54) and triple jump (13.31).

The meet is the 298th and final athletic event of the 2011-12 season for the University of Sioux Falls athletic teams. It was also the last meet for Concordia alum and USF assistant track and field/ head cross country coach Mark Heider, who has accepted a job in Texas.
