Rutherford Third After Opening Round of Regional Championship

Sioux Falls' sophomore Tavia Rutherford fired a 78 in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Central Regional Championship Sunday hosted by Missouri Western State University at St. Joseph Country Club.

Rutherford's six-over par effort places her in a tie with Kendall Earp of Henderson State for third on the individual leaderboard. Her score was nearly seven strokes better than the field average of 84.58 today.

Through the first round, Augustana (317) holds a five-stroke lead over Northeastern State (322) who is second in the team standings, and a six shot advantage over Central Oklahoma (323) in third.

Augustana's Allie Ostrander 74, two-over par tops the individual leaderboard. She owns a three stroke lead over Aly Seng of Central Oklahoma in second and is four shots ahead of Rutherford heading into round two.

Rutherford finished the day ranked in the top five for par three and par four scoring, and is tied with Kayla Schroeder of Northeastern State for birdies with three.
