KWSN 1230 AM Sports Radio and the University of Sioux Falls have reached an agreement to extend their current contract five years, making KWSN the exclusive radio station for Cougar football and basketball through 2017. The extension marks a 20-year partnership between USF and KWSN.

The new agreement includes coverage of all USF regular and post season football, men's and women's basketball games, pre- and post-game programming, and the airing of USF's Coaches Show.

"USF athletics was proud to partner with KWSN from the beginning," said USF Director of Athletics Willie Sanchez. "We are excited to continue growing with them as we move into NCAA Division II."

KWSN and USF's relationship dates back to 1997, when KWSN's initial coverage of USF athletics was limited to football games. Since then, their partnership has evolved to include the broadcasting of men's and women's basketball games and most recently, USF's weekly Coach's Show, which was reintroduced in 2011.

"Backyard Broadcasting is very proud to continue our association with USF and it's exciting and successful sports programs. We consider it to be a key component to KWSN's sports programming," said Backyard Broadcasting Vice President & General Manager Craig Hodgson.

"We're certainly excited to extend our partnership with KWSN," said Sanchez. "KWSN is a key component of our communication strategy. With their assistance, we are able to provide a live broadcast for our alumni and fans to follow across the state.

The University of Sioux Falls football season kicks-off August 30 when the Cougars travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for a 7:00 p.m. meeting with the 2011 NSIC Co-Champions, St. Cloud State University.

Cougar basketball returns to the court November 10, when USF hosts Nebraska Wesleyan and Mayville State in a double-header at the Stewart Center.
