University of Sioux Falls Athletic Department will partner with KDLT to broadcast five of its six home football games this fall. To accommodate the TV schedule, the kickoff times of several games have been adjusted.

“Our partnership with KDLT is a great opportunity to expand our brand,” said USF Athletic Director Kevin Hesser. “Cougar football games will be in more living rooms than ever.”

Fans will have the first opportunity to tune-in for Cougar football on Sept. 22 when they take on Bemidji State University at 12 p.m. On Sept. 29 Southwest Minnesota State University visits Bob Young Field with a 6:30 p.m. kickoff. Other NSIC south opponents, Upper Iowa and Wayne State (Neb.), wrap up the 2012 home slate Oct. 27 and Nov. 10. Both games are set for 12 p.m. kick-offs. The season home opener will not be televised, but will be available online at USFCougars.com.

“Broadcasting local football games for a university with four national championships on KDLT-TV is an opportunity we are excited about,” KDLT’s General Manager Mari Ossenfort said. “It is going to be great for our viewers and great for the state of South Dakota.”

An NBC affiliate, KDLT serves Eastern South Dakota, Southwestern Minnesota, Northwestern Iowa and parts of Nebraska. KDLT is available via Satellite on channel 46 and over the air on channel 46.1 and 5.1. Most cable subscribers can view KDLT on channel 5.

Covering the games for the USF and KDLT is Alex Heinert and Mick Westerman.

Alex Heinert, a graduate of USF, will call the play-by-play. Heinert provided the Cougars’ sideline coverage last season. Heinert has been a radio host and color analyst for high school and college football games for Backyard Broadcasting since 2007 and also serves as the public address announcer of the Sioux Falls Pheasants and Sioux Falls Stampede.

Mick Westerman, also a USF alum and member of the back-to-back National Championship teams, will serve as the color analyst. Most recently Westerman hosted the USF Coaches’ Show. He will continue to host the Coaches’ show in 2012 on 1230 AM KWSN. Westerman has also served as the voice of Cougar basketball and volleyball.

“To have two talents like Alex and Mick in your backyard is pretty special,” said Hesser. “Not only are they very familiar with our athletic programs, but they are friends. They will bring good chemistry, knowledge, and enthusiasm to our telecasts.”

USF media studies students will serve in many roles during the televised games.

“The University of Sioux Falls has an outstanding media studies department, it is one of the best kept secrets on campus,” said Hesser. “I am thrilled to be able to partner with media studies to provide our talented students an opportunity to showcase their skills and what they have learned at USF.”
