Men's Soccer Overpowered by No. 20 NSU
The University of Sioux Falls men’s soccer team (0-3) wrapped up the weekend with a match against no. 20-ranked Northeastern State University (3-1).
The Cougars played a competitive game and trailed just 2-1 at the half, but were ultimately overcome by RiverHawk Bo White’s hat trick and fell by a 4-1 score.
The RiverHawks opened scoring in the 11th minute when White deposited a pass from Juan Gonzalez past Cougar keeper Kyle Simons. White scored what would eventually stand as the game-winning tally in the 26th minute with an assist from Jordan Schmoker.
USF broke up the shut-out in the 38th minute, when senior Brice Holiday cashed in on a free kick from just outside the box to cut the deficit to 2-1 going into the half.
The Cougars turned up the aggressive play early in the second half and found a few scoring opportunities with four corner kicks in the frame, but were unable to match the RiverHawks as they added goals In the 74th and 77th minutes to create the final margin.
NSU out-shot USF 23-8 in the match. Both squads tallied four corner kicks and committed 13 fouls.
Kyle Simons made eight saves for USF in 86:33. Jacob Brenner finished the game.
The Cougars have wrapped up the non-conference portion of the schedule and begin their first-ever GNAC slate later this week. USF heads to Seattle, Wash., to face no. 5-ranked Seattle Pacific on Thursday, Sept. 13.
