Freshman Nick Gottsleben recorded a top-10 finish to lead the University of Sioux Falls men’s golf team to a tie for 10th place at the Concordia University Invitational, hosted by Concordia University at Tartan Park Golf Club.
USF turned in a final-round 318 (+30), six strokes higher than their first-round total of 312 to finish the tournament at 630 (+54). Minnesota, Crookston also carded a team score of 630 to share 10th place with the Cougars. The Cougars finished 35 shots clear of 11th-place Wayne State, but three strokes shy of 9th-place Concordia. Nebraska-Omaha won the event with a two day score of 601 (297-304), outplaying runner-up Augustana College by three shots (300-304).

Gottsleben once again led USF with a five-over 77 on the day. He finished at seven-over 151 to place himself in a tie for 9th with Upper Iowa’s Jake Nelson and Landon Vinger. The finish is Gottsleben’s second straight top-10 of his young career. The Watertown product and cousin of USF women’s golf senior Kali Gottsleben also equaled his best performance as a Cougar, matching his 9th-place showing at last weekend’s Missouri Intercollegiate.
Senior Levi Smith entered the day tied for 29th but gave back a few positions with a seven-over 79 to finish in a tie for 36th place at 157 (+13). Jordan Mueller shaved a stroke off his first round score of 81 to finish with a 17-over 161 and earned a tie for 41st with teammate Andrew Nelson (79-82), Brandon Hanson of Minnesota, Crookston and Winona State’s Tyler Schmude.
Freshman Jon Van’t Hul filled out the remaining spot on the lineup card with a 23-over 167 (84-83) to finish in a tie for 54th, 16 spots higher than his 70th place finish of a week ago.
The Cougars will travel to St. Cloud this weekend to compete in the Husky Invite.
