The USF-Bemidji State football game, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22 will kick off at 12 p.m. CT and will be televised locally on KDLT.

This is the first of five USF football games that will be aired on KDLT. KDLT will also broadcast the Cougars’ home contests versus Southwest Minnesota State (Sept. 29, 6:30 p.m.), Concordia-St. Paul (Oct. 13, 6:30 p.m.), Upper Iowa (Oct. 27, noon) and Wayne State (Nov. 10, noon).

“Broadcasting local football games for a university with four national championships on KDLT-TV is an opportunity we are excited about,” KDLT General Manager Mari Ossenfort recently said. “It is going to be great for our viewers and great for the state of South Dakota.”

KDLT is an NBC affiliate that serves eastern South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, northwest Iowa and parts of Nebraska. KDLT is available via satellite on channel 46 and over the air on channel 46.1 and 5.1. Most cable subscribers in the Sioux Falls area can view KDLT on channel 5.

A pair of USF alumni, Alex Heinert (play-by-play) and Mick Westerman (color) will bring the action to Cougar fans from the booth.

Heinert served as the Cougars’ sideline reporter last season. Heinert has worked for Backyard Broadcasting as a radio host and color analyst for high school and college football games since 2007. He is also the public address announcer of the Sioux Falls Pheasants and Sioux Falls Stampede.

Mick Westerman was a member of USF’s back-to-back national championship teams in 2008-09. He is currently in his second season as the host of the weekly USF Coaches’ Show on KWSN 1230 AM and has also served as the voice of Cougar basketball and volleyball.

“To have two talents like Alex and Mick in your backyard is pretty special,” said USF Director of Athletics Kevin Hesser. “Not only are they very familiar with our athletic programs, but they are friends. They will bring good chemistry, knowledge, and enthusiasm to our telecasts.”

USF media studies students will serve in many roles during the televised games.

“One of the best kept secrets at USF is our outstanding media studies department,” Hesser said. “I am thrilled to be able to partner with media studies to provide our talented students an opportunity to showcase their skills and what they have learned at USF.”
