Cougars Third After Day One of Mustang Invite

The University of Sioux Fall's women's golf team put together an impressive team score of 329 to sit in third place through one round of the Mustang Invite in Marshall, Minn. Led by Sara Swaney and Tavia Rutherford, the Cougars enter the second round just four strokes back of second place.

With four scorers in the top 11 of the individual leaderboard, Augustana currently leads the field with a +27, 315 through day one. University Wisconsin-Eau Claire is four shots ahead of USF following a team round of 325.

Freshman Swaney continues to be a pleasant surprise for USF. She led the Cougars with a 79 today to sit tied in fifth. Rutherford also turned in another low scorecard. She recorded an 80, which tied for eighth place through one round.

Davee Johnson, Audrey Kieliszewsk and Tia Nihart completed USF's team scorers. Johnson carded an 83, which tied for 25th overall, while Kieliszewsk and Nihart matched one another with an 87 to share a tie for 55th.

The Cougars also had individual scorers in Ashley Heupel, Kelsey Leif and Macy Milburn make the trip. Leif (+19, 91, t-76th) led the individual group, while Heupel (+24, 96, t-96th) and Milburn (+35, 109, 109th) rounded out USF individual scorers.

USF continues the second round of the SMSU invite Sunday at 10 a.m.
