Cougars Take 8th at Mustang Invite
The Cougars finished the 36-hole event with a team score of 670 (329-341, +94). Seventeen total teams competed in the tournament, including 13 NSIC schools.
Swaney slipped from a tie for 5th after Saturday's first round into the five-way tie for 30th with a two-day score of 166. After carding a seven-over-par 79 in the first round, she finished the final round with a 15-over-par 87. Teammate Tavia Rutherford was one of the other players involved in a tie for 30th place in the final finishing order. Going into the final round sitting in a tie for eighth place, Rutherford posted an 86 (+14) today to also finish tied for 30th overall at 166 (80-86).
Junior Davee Johnson shot a 14-over 86 today to finish at 169 and in a five-way tie for 43rd place (83-86). Sophomore Tia Nihart paced the Cougars on the final day of competition. The Huron native shaved five strokes off her first round score to shot 10-over, 82, to rally to also tie for 43rd overall.
Rounding out the Cougar side was freshman and Sioux Falls Christian graduate Audrey Kieliszewsk, who posted a second round score of 92 (+20) to end the tournament in a tie for 78th (87-92,179).
Augustana cruised to the women's tournament championship, finishing the weekend at 48-over par, 624, for the tournament. The Vikings won the team title going away, 22-strokes better than second-place, Concordia St. Paul, which finished at 646 (+70). Minnesota State turned in a team 648 to finish third, followed by UW-Eau Claire (656) and Northwest Missouri State (658) to round out the top five teams.
USF's women finished tied for eighth place with Upper Iowa.
The Cougars will complete this weekend (Sept. 30) at the South Dakota State University Invitational, to be held at Minnehaha Country Club.
