Led by brothers Billy and Bobby Brockmueller, the University of Sioux Falls men's cross country team claimed five of the first nine finishers to place first (2:07:06.85) at the Briar Cliff Invitational Saturday morning. The field featured teams from DI, DII and NAIA, 10 men and 16 women.

Billy Brockmueller (25:07.14) captured the individual medal in the men's group, while Shelbie Pettie (18:01.02) crossed the finish third, helping USF (1:37:51.92) to place 7th in the women's competition.

The men's win marks USF's first team cross country victory in over 10 seasons.

The Brockmueller's went 1-2 in the men's 8k run. Billy just edged out his brother Bobby, who clocked a 25:07.95 for second overall. USF's additional three scorers literally finished as a team. With Matt Horan (25:34.06) in front, Ethan Tabbert (25:37.37) and Jared Noyes (25:40.33) crossed the finish 7-8-9 to secure a Cougar victory.

"I was extremely pleased with the way our team came out today," said head cross country coach Grant Watley. "We've worked hard in training all season long and it is starting to pay off."

Pettie paced the women's scorers with her fastest outing of the season. Her time was good for third. Sierra Harder and Becca Steadman gave the Cougar ladies three individuals in the top 20. Harder (18:27.63) took eighth and Steadman (18:52.34) finished 18th. Running in the four and five spots was Lindsey Mettler (21:08.28) and Laura Unruh (21:22.65).

"This was great way to wrap up the regular season," added Watley. "Placing eight of our 10 scorers in the top-20 and recording PR across the board is exciting. Now we will have a couple weeks off to rest up and get ready for the conference meet."

USF returns to action Saturday, October 20 when they travel to St. Paul, Minn. for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Meet .
