The Cougars dropped to 0-13-0 (0-10-0, NSIC), while the Dragons moved to 4-8-1 (3-6-1, NSIC) on the year.
MSUM didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard. In the 14th minute Erin Nyberg found Isabel Nyman at the top center of the box for the Dragons' first score. 90 seconds later, MSUM struck again. This time Nyberg was on the scoring end. Nyberg's goal extended the Dragons lead to two with just under 30 minutes left in the opening half.
USF made a strong push just before the half, earning three consecutive corner kicks, but were unable to cash in. The score remained 2-0 at the break.
The next 45 minutes was fairly quiet as the Cougars pitched a shutout in the second half.
USF had a prime opportunity to get on the board following a nice run by Maria Gonzalez. The goalie tripped her up, resulting in a USF penalty kick. Gonzalez lined up for a PK in the 79th minute, but it hit the top post and came out.
MSUM outshot USF 17-3 and placed seven on target, compared to just two by the Cougars.
Corrin Cook had a strong day in net for USF, making a couple key saves in the second half. She was credited with five stops on the day.
The Cougars will look to bounce back tomorrow when they host Northern State University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
