Brockmueller Sets Eyes on NCAA Championship
He earned an individual invitation to the 2012 NCAA Championship by placing ninth overall at the Central Region Championship November 3.
Brockmueller now sets his eye on a top-40 finish this weekend, which would earn him All-American honors.
"Billy came into the season extremely focused and his work ethic has paid off," said first-year head coach Grant Watley. "He's in the best shape of his life and we are excited to see him represent the program among the nations' best."
Brockmueller's 2012 campaign has been remarkable. He has been USF's top finisher on the men's side in four of five races this season, placing in top-10 in three of those races. Brockmueller guided the Cougars to their first team crown in over a 10 decade at the Briar Cliff Invitational where he also claimed the individual title.
He then took 10th at the NSIC Championships to receive All-Conference plaudits and lead USF to a third place team finish. Brockmueller would top all of his season accomplishments when he ran what he called "the best race of his life" two weeks ago at the NCAA Central Region Meet where his time of 30:35.3 was good for All-Region honors and a spot in the NCAA Championship.
Brockmueller expressed his excitement in a video interview today (to view click play icon above).
"It's been a dream of mine to make Nationals. I mean I would have preferred that we made it as a team, but it is equally exciting just to have this opportunity," said Brockmueller.
"I'm truly honored to represent this university and our cross country program," added Brockmueller.
The men's 10,000 meter race is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. Central time.
