Cougars Cap Spring Break with 7-2 Win
The Sioux Falls women’s tennis team (4-6) ended spring break play with a 7-2 win over Kentucky Wesleyan College.
“The girls played very well today,” said head coach Kevin Grebin. “It was nice to win the last match of the week, as we will now prepare to resume conference play next weekend in Fargo.”
The Cougars opened the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. KWC senior Jamie Brown and sophomore Danielle Hadler downed USF’s Alison Kauss and Stacey Beard in first flight doubles, 8-3. USF bounced back to take the court two match, as Julia Iversen and Caitlin Vance knocked off Haley Kauffman/Sammy Jo Brett, 8-4. The Cougars claimed the No. 3 match via forfeit.
In singles action, Kauss posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 slot and Rachel Hussey topped Brett at third singles, 6-2 and 6-0. Redshirt junior Molly Seigenthaler and sophomore Morgan DeLange bageled their opponents on courts four and five, respectively, while Iversen claimed a win in No. 6 singles.
Hadler picked up a point for the Panthers by defeating Beard
at second singles, 6-1, 6-1.
