Brothers Named PGCBL Pitcher of the Week
USF junior right-hander Eric Brothers has been named the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Week.
Brothers, currently pitching for the Utica Brewers (N.Y.), twirled the second no-hitter in the three-year history of the PGCBL on June 20 against the Mohawk Valley Diamonddawgs. Mohawk Valley prevailed 2-0 behind a one-hit shutout thrown over six innings by starting pitcher Keegan Long (Saint Joseph’s, Ind.).
Brothers and Long combined to allow just one hit in the contest, an infield single by Utica’s Michael Pierson (Appalachian State) in the first inning.
Brothers conceded just five base runners over six innings. The Valley Center (Calif.) native fanned four, walked four and faced three batters over the minimum. He seated the final 14 Mohawk Valley batters between the second and sixth innings.
Brothers (0-1) owns a 2.20 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in five appearances for the Brewers (6-9). He has allowed six runs on nine hits in 16.1 innings of work with nine walks and 13 strikeouts. Brothers is hold opposing PGCBL batters to a .167 average
The Utica Brewers are the newest addition to the 10-team PGCBL. Other teams includes the Albany Dutchmen, Amsterdam Mohawks, Cooperstown Hawkeyes, Glens Falls Golden Eagles, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs, Adirondack Trail Blazers, Elmira Pioneers, Newark Pilots and Watertown Rams.
