Cougar Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep
Cougar volleyball extended their win streak to seven by completing a four game weekend sweep in the NSIC Challenge. Wins over Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State have the Cougars 7-1 heading into conference play.
In game one, USF took care of Missouri Western in four sets (25-23, 20-25, 25-17, 25-17). USF played solid defense en route to their win over the Griffons. Three Cougars recorded four blocking assists, contributing to 11 total stuffs. USF held the Griffon attack to just .209. Andrea Odbert led the Cougars with 15 digs.
Offensively the Cougars posted a .321 attacking percentage. Three Cougars tallied double digit kills. Emily Johnson (17), Kate Hart (12) and Jordan Calef (10) led USF and benefitted from Alexa Reeds 51 assists.
After dropping the first game of their second match against Northwest Missouri State, the Cougars took three straight to complete the weekend sweep (21-25, 26-24, 25-13, 25-13).
The teams exchanged points for most of game one until NMSU scored six unanswered points to have the opportunity for match point, leading 24-19.
Game three and four were highlighted by a strong offensive performance. USF posted an attacking percentage of .636 and .467, respectively.
USF’s top attackers all recorded double digit kills. Johnson (17), Hart (10) and Calef (10) led the Sioux Falls’ attack. Alexa Reed totaled 44 assists in the match.
Sioux Falls begins their conference schedule on Thursday, September 19 when they travel to #8 Wayne State College. The Cougars then return home for four straight home matches—starting with cross-town rival, Augustana on Saturday, September 21.
