USF Soccer Adds 8 Student-Athletes in 2012 Recruiting Class

The University of Sioux Falls women's soccer head coach Mekonnen Afa and his staff has announced that eight student-athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday and will join the Cougar soccer program in the fall of 2012. Of the signees, seven hail from outside the state of South Dakota, including Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Arizona and Kansas.
The recruiting class consists of four midfielders, two forwards, one defender and one goal keeper. Afa has also announced that one of the two transfer players is currently enrolled at USF and the other will join the program in the fall.
"We are extemely excited about this class. Not only is It is the largest and most geographically diverse group of student-athletes we have ever signed, but we feel this class can contribute right away," said Afa. "We expect to add a few more players in the coming weeks, but today I'm very proud of our coaching staff . We took another step forward in preparing our team for competition in the NSIC."
USF will enter its fi rst full season as a full fl edge member of the NCAA DII and compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the start of the 2012-13 academic calendar.
In their final year of transition to the NCAA DII, the Cougars faced nine DII institutions, including six NSIC opponents. USF concluded the 2011 season with two consecuitve wins to finish 8-8-1.
USF opens the 2012 season with a home matchup with crosstown rival and NSIC foe, Augustana College.
