Cougars Complete NSIC Championship in Sixth
Another solid performance by Jordan Mueller, helped the University of Sioux Falls men's golf team accumulate a 320 Sunday in the final round of the NSIC Championship giving them a tournament score of 1236 for sixth place. Mueller was the only Cougar ranked in the individual top 10, finishing tied for sixth place.
Minnesota State carded another great round, scoring a 293 to record a team score of 1206 and pick up their fourth consecutive NSIC title. Behind medalist, Charlie West (76-71-69-71=287), St. Cloud State (1209) finished second. Bemidji State's 292 gave them a 1216 for the tournament, which was good for third.
Mueller's 72 today was a team-low for USF and his second consecutive low 70's round over the weekend. He finished with a combined score of 301 and 17-over par on the tournament.
Shea Stoltenberg and Troy Klongerbo each finished in the top 25 of the individual leaderboard. Stoltenberg (77-76-78-81=312) fired an 81 today to tie for 20th, while Klongerbo (77-76-76-84=313) carded an 84, which tied him for 23rd.
Levi Smith and Deryk Thomsen round out USF scorers at the championship. Smith (76-73-79-94=322) shot a season-worst 94 to drop from a potential top 10 finish to 33rd overall. Thomsen (78-83=161), who did not participate in the fall portion of the tournament, shot an 83 to accumulate a 161 for two rounds of play.
USF concludes the 2011-12 season next Saturday at the Drury Panther Invite in Springfield, Mo.
