Volleyball Takes Third at Locos Grill Tournament
The Cougars finish the season with an overall record of 15-27. The Cardinals end the year at 16-15.
USF went 3-1 at the three-day tournament which featured six NCAA D-II provisional schools: Black Hills State, Lindenwood, McKendree, Minot State, USF and William Jewell.
Lindenwood swept Minot State in the championship match (25-21, 25-12, 26-24).
USF hit .199 as a team and limited William Jewell to a .163 attack percentage. The Cougars held a 7-6 edge in total blocks and racked up 72 total digs.
Cougar freshman Emily Johnson (Platte) led all players with 20 kills on 45 swings (.311). Junior Chanda Goedken (Farley, Iowa) had eight kills and a match-high 24 digs.
Freshman setter Charlee Nelson (Mitchell) spread the wealth and finished the match with 26 set assists.
Senior captain Alyssa Chambers (Sioux Falls/Roosevelt) was nearly unstoppable at the net in the final match of her collegiate career, posting four block assists to go along with seven kills.
Johnson and Goedken were both named to the Locos Grill Transition All-Tournament Team.
It was the final collegiate match for seniors Alyssa Chambers and Stephanie Moller, both natives of Sioux Falls.
