The USF cross country teams competed in their fifth meet of the season on Saturday at the Briar Cliff Cross Country Invitational, held at the Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, Iowa.

In a field of 14 squads on both sides, the Cougar men combined for a 7th-place finish and the women also took 7th in the race.

Augustana College topped the field in both the men's and women's races.


In the men's 8K race, freshman Jared Noyes crossed the tape in a time of 25:07.19 to pace the Cougars for the third time this season with a 7th-place finish.

Classmate Brady Ihnen finished 20th with a time of 25:38.81 and was trailed by sophomore Blake Stevenson, who clocked a 26:25.23 to take 37th.

Rounding out the Cougar top seven were junior Tyler Voss (28:42.6/102), sophomore Grant Schouten (28:55.95/106), sophomore Blaze Killian (28:59.7/109) and Matt Wattier (30:02.24/123).

Junior Shelbie Pettie continued her strong fall campaign in the women's 5K, posting a 3rd place finish with a time of 18:04.2. Sophomore Sierra Harder was not far behind with her 15th-place showing (18:48.74), while freshman Becca Steadman took 32nd with a time of 19:27.93.

Others scoring for the Cougars were freshman sophomore Carrie King (20:05.92/55), senior Taryn Sahli (20:45/66), freshman Sara Watt (21:02.94/79) and sophomore Michelle Johnson (23:28.39/134).

Both squads will host the University of Sioux Falls Championships at the Spring Creek Golf Course on Saturday, November 5.
