Sioux Falls, SD - The University of Sioux Falls football team finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final NAIA football polls, completing a wire-to-wire No. 1 ranking for 2009. The Cougars received all 18 first place votes. Other GPAC are No. 5 Morningside (10-2), No. 13 Hastings College (9-3) and No. 25 Northwestern College (7-3).

This season the Cougars enjoyed a 15-0 season, their fourth consecutive Great Plains Athletic Conference title, a 28-13 win over NCAA FCS University of North Dakota and a 25-22 victory over NAIA No. 2 Lindenwood in the national title game. The victory gave the Cougars their fourth national title and third crown in four seasons.
