Sioux Falls, SD - University of Sioux Falls head football coach Kalen DeBoer is the 2009 American Football Coaches Association NAIA Coach of the Year, as announced by the AFCA Tuesday afternoon. It is the third AFCA Coach of the Year Award for DeBoer, also receiving the award in 2006 and 2008. DeBoer was also the Region 4 NAIA Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007 and 2009.

This season DeBoer coached the Cougars to a 15-0 record that included a fourth consecutive Great Plains Athletic Conference title, a 28-13 win over NCAA Division I FCS University of North Dakota and a 25-22 victory over No. 2 Lindenwood in the NAIA National Title Game. The national title was the third in four seasons for the Cougars and fourth overall for the program. DeBoer has been a part of each of USF’s national championship team, coaching the 2006, 2008 and 2009 teams to the crown and an all-American receiver on the 1996 title team.

DeBoer has accumulated an impressive 67-3 record in five seasons as the Cougar’s head coach. This season’s perfect record, coupled with last season’s 14-0 record, give USF the nation’s longest winning streak, no matter level, at 29 straight victories.

DeBoer will be honored with FBS winner Gary Patterson of Texas Christian University, FCS winner Andy Talley of Villanova’s, NCAA Division II winner Mel Tjeerdsma of Northwest Missouri State, and NCAA Division III winner Lance Leipod of Wisconsin-Whitewater tonight at the AFCA Coach of the Year Dinner in Orlando, Fla.
