USF Cougar Track and Field Opens Season at MSU-Mankato

Sioux Falls, SD - In their 2009-2010 season opener the University of Sioux Falls men’s and women’s track and field squads competed at the MSU-Mankato Early Season Open Saturday in Mankato, Minn.


For the women, the team of freshmen Brigitte Gross (Alexandria, S.D.), Nicole Josephsen (Arlington, S.D.), Kendra Knight (Mitchell, S.D.) and Leah Wensmann (Aberdeen, S.D.) took fourth overall in the 4 X 400 relay with a time of four minutes and 11.34 seconds.


Gross also garnered third place recognition in the pole vaulting event with mark of 3.50 meters while sophomore Kayla Friesen (Alliance, Neb.) finished fourth in the same event with a toss of 3.35 meters. Junior Maci Cottier (Gillette, Wyo.) ended up fifth in the shot put event with a throw of 12.59 meters.


On the men’s side freshman Jordan Mueller (Yankton, S.D.) took home third place in the high jump event, a leap of 1.90 meters. Sophomore Nathan Bridgman (Wessington Springs, S.D.) finished fifth in the triple jump event, a leap of 13.45 meters.


Junior Gary Kashale (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had a strong effort in the 800 meter run as he finished fourth with a time of 2:00.31.


Next up for the track and field teams is a return trip to Mankato, this time for the MSU-Mankato Alumni Open; events will take place on January 9.
