Sioux Falls, SD - In their second meet of the season the University of Sioux Falls men’s and women’s track and field squads traveled to Wayne, Neb., to take part in the Wayne State College Preseason Meet.

It was a strong effort for the teams as they combined to win seven events, four by men and three by women.

In the women’s pole vaulting event the Cougars took six of the top seven spots. Freshman Kristin Killough (Holdrege, Neb.) ended up in first with a vault of 11 feet, 9.25 inches and sophomore Kayla Friesen (Alliance, Neb.) was runner-up with a leap of 11 feet and 3 inches. Freshman Brigitte Gross (Alexandria, S.D.) also had a great day with a third place leap of 10 feet, 10 inches.

Sophomore Sarah Gilbert (Papillion, Neb.) won the women’s long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 9.75 inches while the USF “A” team easily won the women’s 4 X 400 meter relay with a time of 4:05.14, more than seven seconds ahead of second place Wayne State.

On the men’s side sophomore Andrew Ellsworth (Norfolk, Neb.) took home first in the men’s pole vaulting event with a mark of 15 feet while freshman Austin King (Crooks, S.D.) ended up first in the men’s long jump event with a jump of 22 feet, 4 inches.

Junior Alex Zuke (Brandon, S.D.) took first in both the 55 meter dash and sophomore Colin Koth (Sioux Falls, S.D.) finished second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.52 seconds. Sophomore Nathaniel Bridgman (Wessington Springs, S.D.) finished runner-up in the men’s triple jump with a jump of 45 feet, 1 inch.

Next up for the Cougars is a trip to Mankato, Minn., to take part in the Minnesota State University Alumni Open. It will take place on Saturday, January 9.
