USF Track and Field has Several Events Winners at the MSU Open

Sioux Falls, SD - The University of Sioux Falls competed well today at the Minnesota State University open meet in Mankato, MN. The meet featured NAIA and NCAA Division II and III schools from around the region.Sophomore jumper Sarah Gilbert (Papillion, Neb.) had a record breaking day. Gilbert automatically qualified for the national meet when she broke her own school record in the high jump. Her jump of 5 foot, 7 inches tied her for first in the event. Gilbert also finished fourth in the long jump with a near-school record 17’ 6” leap.
In the 60 meter hurdles both freshman Sarah Sannerud (Granite Falls, MN) and sophomore Becca Bedard (Rapid City, S.D.) made the finals. Sannerud won the event with a time of 9.44 while Bedard posted a time of 9.69 to finish fourth. In the 600 meter run freshman Kendra Knight (Mitchell, S.D.) was runner up with a time of 1 minute, 34.71 seconds. She finished only .15 of a second behind teammate Lindsay Reinhardt (Vancouver, Wash.).
For the men junior jumper Jon Ryan (Watertown, S.D.) finished second in the long jump at 22 feet, 11.75 inches and third in the triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 5.75 inches. Finishing one position ahead of Ryan in the triple jump was teammate Nathan Bridgman (So.; Wessington Springs, S.D.) at 45 feet, 8 inches. Junior Gary Kashale (Sioux Falls, S.D.) won his heat of the 600 meter run, stopping the clock at 1 minute, 25.08 seconds.
All 11 of USF’s pole vaulters are competing at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. Results will be posted when available.
The USF track and field team will have several more meets to improve their marks before heading to the GPAC championships on February 20th in Lincoln, Neb. Up next is the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday, February 5th.
