USF Basketball Falls to Missouri Western in Season Opener

SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls women's basketball team dropped their season opener tonight, 49-67, to Missouri Western State in the second game of the Courtyard Tip-off Classic.

WHAT HAPPENED

·       The Cougars were led by sophomore Sidney Swanson with a career high 13 points while going 5-8 from the field with one assist.

·       Megan Fannin put up 10 points for the Coo while dishing out one assist on the night.

·       Fifth year forward Krystal Carlson pulled in six rebounds on the evening while handing out three assists for USF.

·       The Cougars fell behind early as the Griffons of Missouri Western jumped out to a 15-0 lead, but it wasn't until the 3rd quarter that USF would pull within two.

·       USF held MWSU to just 16 points in the second and 11 in the third, but struggled to put numbers on the board in the first and fourth quarters.

SIOUX FALLS LEADERS

·       Swanson, Fannin and Carlson led the Cougars in points collecting 32 of USFs 49 on the night.

·       Carlson led USF with three assists followed by seven Cougars each with one.

·       Carlson also led Sioux Falls with two blocks against the Griffons followed by Fannin with one of her own.

·       Madison Birnbaum and Krystal Carlson picked off two steals on the evening along with Dallie Hoskinson with one.

TEAM STATISTICS

·       USF went 18-54 from the field, 4-17 beyond the arch and 9-16 from the free throw line on the night.

·       The Cougars capitalized on Griffon turnovers with 16 points coming from turnovers.

UP NEXT

Sioux Falls (0-1) is back home tomorrow afternoon to take on #3 Fort Hays State at 3:30 p.m. in the final game of the Courtyard Tip-off Classic. The Tigers fell to Augustana 59-62 today and are led by head coach Tony Hobson.
